Membership Principles
-
Central to the mission of each program is a demonstrated commitment to music as a vehicle for positive social change.
-
Programs primarily serve young people within underserved communities, regardless of ability to pay. They have policies for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
-
Programs foster safe, positive community spaces, where young people are treated with respect and kindness, backed by policies, procedures and protocols for addressing child and youth protection.
-
Programs aspire to support young people with both their everyday needs and long term growth, with the intention to keep them engaged for multiple years, serving them into young adulthood.
-
Programs demonstrate opportunities for meaningful parental and guardian involvement and community engagement.
-
Programs emphasize ensemble programming as a core element of curriculum.
-
Programs demonstrate unifying practices that encourage students and teachers to contribute to a supportive community. They develop a unique culture characterized by student-driven activities and mentorship, where students feel valued and cared for as members of the program.
-
Programs provide high quality, regular musical instruction at all stages of development, which achieves measurable outcomes in musical, personal and community growth. This ongoing pursuit of excellence leads to positive social change.
-
In order to provide all students with intensive opportunities to practice and excel, programs aspire to provide multiple musical learning opportunities per week, in response to the needs of the community.
